It’s fall once again in Gainesville and everyone knows that means the start of classes, football games and UF College Democrat meetings.
With classes starting, it’s time again for UF College Democrats to begin a new year with exciting opportunities and events for members. Our newly elected e-board has been working hard over the summer to ensure that UF College Democrats will be an active force in Democratic politics both in Florida and nationwide. During the summer our members were out getting involved and recruiting new members for this year.
Many of our members were across the country continuing their involvement in political process and helping grow the organization. UF College Democrat members held internships positions at congressional offices as well as non-governmental organizations and even the White House! Many of those members are officers on our e-board, such as Lauren Nickoloff who interned for Rep. Kathy Castor and Christina Ford who interned at the Office of the First Lady.
Also over the summer UF College Democrats were present at the UF Preview Involvement Fair. The event is a way for incoming freshman to learn and get involved with student organizations on campus. Our members met new Gators from around the state and nation, many of whom were active in the 2012 presidential election and have been progressive activists in their hometowns. We are excited to see what the class of 2017 can contribute to College Democrats and the university!
We are looking forward to a great year and hope to continue to build upon the progress we have made!
